Good Morning Sunshine-
It’s always great to wake up to a new day, but let’s be honest here. Mornings can be rough, but what you do in the morning sets the tone for the rest of your day.
What do you want this day to be all about?
That’s why its so important to consider how to get your mind, body, and spirit ready for the day ahead.
A great morning routine is the foundation of a healthy lifestyle.
It’s important to think ahead and plan out how you want to design your foundation.
Consider these 11 ways to craft the perfect morning.
1. Don’t Give In To the Snooze Button
Is there anything more difficult than this?
Trying to sleep in between your alarms will not help you feel more rested, even if your mind tries to convince you otherwise.
It will cause you to feel more tired when you have to get up.
It is harder for your body to wake up at the beginning of a sleep cycle, which is what happens when you fall back asleep for 5 minutes.
You are better off getting more sleep by setting your alarm for later, than setting it early and hitting snooze.
2. Chug That Water
Drinking water has countless benefits to your health.
Drinking it in the morning helps you to kick-start your metabolism, keep you hydrated, and flush out toxins.
Most people don’t drink enough water as it is, so by drinking a glass when you wake up, you get a jump start on your daily water intake!
3. Make Your Bed
Starting your day by completing this simple task will give you a small sense of accomplishment.
After making your bed, you might be surprised how that one little task can quickly change the outlook of your entire day.
“If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.”
4. Stretch It Out
Get your blood flowing!
Doing so will help boost energy to start your day.
Increased blood flow will improve your concentration and sharpen your senses. Stretching will also help in injury prevention and enhanced flexibility.
5. Breakfast Baby
How do you expect to rule the day without the proper fuel?
A nutritious breakfast helps you start your day off right. Hunger often strikes us at our desks at 10 am, and it’s difficult to focus on anything when you are hungry.
Fueling up with protein at breakfast is a sure way to fight that hunger and needless snacking. Plus breakfast gives you the energy and nutrients your body needs. If you want your best day physically and mentally, eat a healthy breakfast.
6. Avoid the Electronics
Since you likely spend the majority of your day wired (over 12 hrs on average), you should spend this time in the morning unplugged.
Diving into the world every day can be a bit discouraging anyway.
Give yourself some time before checking the news or social media sites.
Unplug and envision the day you want to have.
An excellent replacement for morning media is taking time for reflection.
How do you feel? What do you want for this day? What are you praying and hoping for today?
Spend some time alone with your thoughts, and then write them down.
Journaling can be such a fantastic outlet, but it has become a lost art in today’s culture.
8. Get Your Heart Pumping
Starting your day with exercise is a great way to give your metabolism a boost.
Not to mention, if you get a workout in right away it takes away the temptation to skip your workout after work when you are tired and worn out from the day.
Even a quick 10 minute morning workout is better than no exercise at all.
Plus it’s super manageable to do every morning. If you need an idea for a quick workout, check out the exercises in our 7 Day Weight Loss Challenge.
9. Let the Light In
Open those blinds!
Let the sunlight wake you up if possible. Doing so will help improve your mood and helps you to get moving in the morning.
It’s certainly better than fluorescent lights.
We use this neat wake up alarm clock as a close alternative to waking up to natural sunlight, since that isn’t always a feasible option for us.
10. Take time for Quiet
Take at least 10 minutes to clear your mind.
Have a seat and do nothing. Sort through your thoughts before heading out for your day.
11. Accomplish One Little Task
It’s all about perspective.
Your to-do list has to start sometime. You already made your bed, now get one other little thing done.
This will give you that accomplished feeling that will keep going throughout the day.
One completed tasks will lead you to complete another and then another.
Now that you know these 11 simple ways to infinitely better your morning, the next step is to put them into action.
Start by implementing one or two into your morning routine. Then gradually add in more if you can.
You may not have the time to do them all, so try switching them up and finding out which ones work best for YOU.
Each new morning is a gift, take advantage of it.
